Overview

Designed and developed at Hack Canada 2025, SmartBasket combines generative AI with location-based crowdsourcing to help Canadians compare local shopping options. The home screen moves from nearby offers to a personal basket and contribution rewards, keeping price, store, and distance visible together.

Discovery

Connect today's offers to the shopping list

The Today card presents nearby product suggestions as quick-add chips. Below it, the basket summary reports the number of saved products and highlights items currently on sale, with each offer showing its price, store, and distance.

Add-to-list and nearby-items actions sit directly beside that summary. The layout connects browsing to list building, so the shopper can move between a new deal and an existing need without leaving the same overview.

Comparison

Organize the basket around nearby stores

The shopping-list view groups items by retailer and pairs each store with its distance and item count. This gives the basket a second structure beyond individual products: where the shopper might go to find them.

The new-item flow introduces automatic price comparison and explains that pricing and a suggested store appear after an item is added. That short explanation makes the proposed comparison behavior visible at the point of entry.

Contribution

Make local sale information a shared activity

Contribution prompts ask whether the shopper has seen a sale at a nearby store. Other states ask whether listed items are still on sale, bringing confirmation into the same experience as discovery.

A points card shows reward balance, level, and progress toward the next level. Bright green highlights separate current offers from the softer shopping-list cards, while rounded containers and direct actions give the different parts of the product a shared visual language.
